Guide Dogs for the Blind recognizes that the human-animal bond is unique; we want to give teens with visual impairments the opportunity to experience its life-changing potential.
Every year GDB invites youth ages 14-17 who are legally blind to apply for our camp program, and this year is no exception! We are excited to partner this summer with The Lighthouse for the Blind San Francisco, and will be holding Camp GDB at Enchanted Hills Camp for the Blind (EHC) in Napa, California for 12 qualified youth.
At Camp GDB, participants will explore the companionship, independence, and responsibility of having a guide dog. Campers receive hands-on guide dog instruction with an emphasis on understanding the specific orientation and mobility skills required to be a successful guide dog handler, as well as the fitness and endurance necessary for guide dog travel.
Camp GDB will be held July 20 – 24, the first five days of EHC’s ten-day teen camp program. Although subject to availability, GDB camper’s can also apply to continue on with the EHC Teen Camp which extends to July 29th.
GDB campers will stay in the Lodge at EHC, and share a room with one other camper. All meals will be provided, and campers will join in the EHC Teen Camp evening activities.
Camp GDB is FREE to 12 qualified applicants; families are responsible for providing transportation to and from Enchanted Hills Camp. If traveling by plane, GDB will provide transportation to and from the airport.
